Do you know the story about the Lotus flower?

It imitates what many of us are going through at the moment, it’s a story of coming from a murky, uncertain past and coming into our light as a new flower.

The lotus flower, as we all do, starts in water, ours beginning in the womb, the flower’s beginnings, the murky waters of a river or lake.

The flower then sits under water for a while, growing, it looks like nothing from the fairly flat surface of the river. It is surrounded by mud, fish, dirt and insects.

Over time the lotus develops a stem, but only a pod starts to peek through the surface.

As the stems starts to grow the pod can free itself from the murky depths of the water it grew up in, it breathes in clean air and starts to open it’s petals.

The lotus flower is beautiful and is ready to accept the sun’s rays.

Can you see the symbolism and why the lotus features in so many pictures of personal growth?

No matter who you are or how old you are, I’m sure that you can see the correlation to the lotus blooming and your life. Most of us have something in our past that we are holding onto that is holding us back from opening our petals to the sun.

I felt very compelled this morning to share this with you and to record a meditation that I believe with help you move through some of the struggles you may be holding onto and to help you shine in your own right.

I’d love to know how it affected you, please comment below.

“The lotus is the most beautiful flower, whose petals open one by one. But it will only grow in the mud. In order to grow and gain wisdom, first you must have the mud — the obstacles of life and its suffering. … The mud speaks of the common ground that humans share, no matter what our stations in life. … Whether we have it all or we have nothing, we are all faced with the same obstacles: sadness, loss, illness, dying and death. If we are to strive as human beings to gain more wisdom, more kindness and more compassion, we must have the intention to grow as a lotus and open each petal one by one. ”
